Rust College Student Presents Mathematical Research During International Experience in Germany

HOLLY SPRINGS, MS – Rust College is proud to recognize student researcher Skye Glasgow for giving his first mathematical presentation at an international event while participating in a research experience at Europa-Universität Flensburg in Flensburg, Germany.

Skye’s presentation marked an important milestone in his academic journey and reflected Rust College’s continued commitment to expanding undergraduate research, global learning, mentorship, and student access to international academic opportunities.

During the camp, Skye joined participants and presenters from several countries for mathematical collaboration, learning, and discussion. One photo from the event captures Skye, Dr. Cadavious M. The moment represents four nations connected through scholarship and research: the United States, Germany, St. Lucia, and Slovakia.

“Skye did a great job, and I am proud of the work he put into preparing for this opportunity,” said Dr. Cadavious M. Jones, Dean of the Division of Science and Mathematics at Rust College. “The camp participants and presenters have also done an excellent job, bringing great energy, curiosity, and thoughtful discussion to the experience.”

Skye is also scheduled to participate in upcoming faculty workshop sessions, where he will share more about his research, his international experience, and what he has learned through the collaboration.

The international research opportunity was made possible through the invitation and support of Rust College’s global partner, Dr. Michael Schmitz of Europa-Universität Flensburg. Skye’s travel was supported through a combination of grant funds, partner support, and alumni contributions. The experience demonstrates how undergraduate research at Rust College creates access, builds confidence, strengthens mentorship, and helps students see that they belong in academic and research spaces around the world.

“This is a meaningful example of Bearcat undergraduate research creating access and opening doors for students,” Dr. Jones said. “Opportunities like this help students grow academically, professionally, and personally while expanding their understanding of the global research community.”
